Roll Me Away
A song fic By: Jason Monti
[song lyrics]
Scene opens with Ranma working out in the yard of the Tendou estate. On the
porch facing the pond sits Akane enjoying a cold beverage in the shade while
she watches Ranma move. She has a contented smile on her face, happy to just
look at Ranma. She knows that had the wedding not been ruined, she would have
been his wife, her smile fades slightly, lamenting that. He was the most
powerful man she knew, and loved him all the more for it, but inside she knew
that he was a scared little boy. Akane knew he loved her as well, even if he
denied it, that was just the fear of rejection talking. He loved her though,
she just knew it! Her smile widened again.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. This time the end came when a
pink cat came strolling in. "The hussy just had to come and ruin it," Akane
hissed under her breath.
"Airen better start paying more attention to me!" thought Shan Pu, as she
casually walked over to her Airen. He had the gall to yell at her after the
failed wedding! Something about how she could have hurt the kitchen
destroyer, as if she cared, and how the doujou was in shambles. He better
have given the same spiel to Spatula girl! The nerve of him! He was a mere
male, and if he wouldn't submit to her charms, she would force him!
Spying the cat in the corner of his eye, Ranma did the only thing he could,
panic, and run. Which he did quite well with said cat on his tail (for give
the pun). of course Mu Tsu chose this time to bound over the wall calling for
Saotome's blood for stealing his Shan Pu! As we all know, every one else some
how decided that this would be a great time to drop by and of course they all
joined in the fun.
Akane, just watched helplessly as three boys tried to kill her fiancee, and
three girls, Shan Pu had somehow changed forms were trying to fight one
another and kiss Ranma at the same time, the others being Ukyou and Kodachi.
With the application of some water at the right moment, Kodachi decided to
join the guys in beating the Red haired harridan, while Mu Tsu and Ryouga
continued to attack, and Kunou joined the other girls in declaring their love
for his Pig-tailed Goddess.
Akane continued to watch, knowing that as much as she wanted to think of
herself as a skilled martial artist, if Ranma was being hurt here, she stood
no chance at all. So, in anger at her helplessness, she took a bucket and
splashed the whole group. The next thing she knew, Ryouga rolled out of the
fight in the form of a wet P-chan, and then a wet duck flew out of the melee.
Akane couldn't take this as the stress of the situation got the better of her
and she fainted. Meanwhile, everyone had pretty much figured out that nothing
was accomplished, so left, especially P-chan, who saw the look on Akane's face
just before she collapsed. And while he would like to comfort her, he figured
that becoming 'Cantonese Style Sweet and Sour Pork' was not on his agenda for
the day, so left as fast as he could. This left a thoroughly battered and
unconscious Ranma-chan in the yard.
Hearing the sounds of melee in the yard, Kasumi gathered a first aid kit and
headed out to see if anyone needed her assistance. Upon finding Akane and
Ranma, she hauled them in and laid them out on futons next to each other.
Akane woke first and sat up next to her fiance. She started to tear upon
seeing her fiance's beaten form, and at the memory of seeing Ryouga turn into
P-chan. The tears came unbidden then.
Ranma woke to sounds of Akane crying. Bad. She opened her eyes and said,
"S'okay Akane, I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me." This had the
desired effect and Akane hugged the boy fiercely.
"I'm *sniff* glad that your okay. *sniff* I saw, I *sniff* I saw Ryouga, he,
he changed into P-chan!" cried Akane into Ranma's chest. "I always thought he
was a nice guy, I never thought he'd be such a pervert!"
The two held each other for a little while longer, until Ranma spoke.
"Akane, I, I can't take this crap anymore, I have to get out of here."
"You're leaving me?!" she cried, eyes wide, desperate for him to stay.
"No Akane-chan, I'd like, I, I'd like for you to come with me. If you want."
"I can't, I can't just leave! We have school, and collage! can't!"
"Then I'll have to go with out you, if I stay here, someone's really gonna
get hurt, and while this was bad, I don't know what I'd do if anything were to
happen to you, Akane, I, I...love...you." he said in low tones.
"Promise me you'll return, come back to me, please, Ranma." she begged.
"I will Akane, for you."
"I...love...you too."
"Thank you, Akane-chan."
After dinner than night, while everyone most of the family sat around doing
nothing much, Ranma slipped out of his window, and out of the Tendou compound.
Akane sat in her room and cried. But she was assured that he'd return, which
brought some conciliation to the weeping girl.
[I took a look down the west bound road, right a way I made my choice.
Ranma headed west silently, wishing he had a faster mode of transport. He
had taken quite a bit of cash out his old man's drawer and it should last him
quit a bit of time, if he conserved it well.
He came by a used motorcycle dealer, and stopped to admire some of the bikes.
He saw one with a side car, and somehow it just appealed to him. He looked
at the price tag and almost facefaulted, it was cheap! He could buy this
thing and still have money left for a month of food!
A man of twenty five approached him. "That's a good bike there, It's gotten
me where ever I wanted to go, but I had to mark it down because no one wants
it. Are you interested sir?"
Ranma looked at the guy, who looked like he could be trusted, kind of wimpy
though, he added as an after thought. "Sure. I'll take it, if it'll get me
outta this town any faster than my feet."
"Sold. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did."
[Headed out to my big two-wheeler, I was tired of the sound of my own voice.
Took a bead on the Northern Plains, and just rolled that power on.]
Ranma road north, headed toward Hokkaido. He stopped at a few doujous along
the way to see what he could learn. Mostly he tried to pick up the 'softer
forms,' which were more defensive, forms like Aikido.
[Twelve hours out of Toukyou City, stopped in a bar to have a brew.]
He was a twelve hour's drive out of Nerima when he stopped for a drink and
some food. He hadn't gotten very far in his travels, if he had been riding
strait since he left he'd be in North Korea by now. As it stands, he had
stayed a few days here and there.
[Met a girl and we had a few drinks, and I told her what decided to do.]
Entering the bar Ranma made his way to the one open seat. He ordered some
miso soup, and some shrimp tepinyaki with a glass of sake on the side. He
began to eat, and noticed a girl glancing at him every once in a while. She
had a kerchief covering her head, and sun glasses on.
"So stranger, you don't look like the type that would come here. What's your
name." the girl asked.
"Mfff, sorry, It's Ranma. Just passing through." he said still looking at
his plate. He took a pull of his glass of sake. The girl ordered a glass for
her self.
"Where're you from, where're you headed?"
"Your sure curious. I'm from Nerima. Left 'cause too much shit was bringin'
me down, thought it was gonna kill Me." he managed before stuffing his mouth
again, then washing it down with some more sake.
"That's too bad, I've been there too. I thought it was nice till I decided
to leave. Got too lonely."
"I got a fiancee down there, love'er t'death. It was all the other stuff
that I just couldn't handle anymore. I told her I'd return, and one day I
will, and I'm gonna marry her!" he said wistfully.
The girl noticed his smile. She let a small smile cross her lips, and a
single tear roll down her cheek.
[She looked out the window for one long moment, then she looked into my eyes.]
The girl took off her glasses after looking out the window at the bike that
Ranma had ridden up on. She put her hand on his shoulder and he looked up,
their eyes met. Ranma's eyes went wide. "AKANE!" he cried, embracing her.
"I so glad I've found you! I was so lonely without you!"
[She didn't have to say anything, I knew what she was thinkin'.]
There was a pause as the two continued looking into each other's eyes, before
they kissed. He could see her silent hope shining through.
[Roll, roll me a way, won't you roll me away tonight? I too am lost, I feel
double-crossed, and I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right!]
An arm around her waist, Ranma lead Akane out to his bike.
[We never even said a word, we just walked out and got on that bike, and we
rolled, and we rolled clean out of sight. We rolled across the high plain,
deep into the mountains.]
The two stayed where they could, and decided to elope, getting married in
Hokkaido, in a doujou there, and were allowed to consummate their marriage in
the room there hosts provided while they stayed.
[It felt so good to do, findin' our way through. Somewhere along the high
road, yeah, it began to turn cold.]
The couple had fun learning martial arts, working and traveling, until Akane
discovered she was pregnant. Ranma was deliriously happy.
[She said she missed her home, I headed on alone. Oh oh.]
Akane, fearing what all this traveling and being near poverty was going to do
to her child talked to Ranma about returning home, for the sake of the baby.
They found that they had just enough money for Akane to take a train home.
And so, promising once again, to return to his wife, he saw her off at Kushiro
Station.
Ranma sold his bike for passage to China. From Beijing, to Hunan, to
Quinghai, he traveled, but this time, at a faster pace. He wanted to surprise
his wife, and be there by her side for the birth of their child. At the same
time, though, he wanted to be a complete father to his child, not half mother
as well.
[I stood on the mountain top, staring out at the great divide.]
There they were, the pools of horror, and his cure. Jyusenkyou. Funny he
thought to himself, if only the Amazons knew how close to Joketsuzoku he was.
He descended to the guide's house. There he found Plum, the new guide. Her
father had apparently died of a heart attack recently. Ranma gave his deepest
condolences. The two talked throughout the night. Plum explained how the
people of Mount Phoenix were still being good, ever since Ranma had come.
Ranma spoke of his travels, of his wife.
The next morning saw Plum taking Ranma to the Nannichuan, where he was
finally rid of his curse. Staying one more day, he ascended the mountain once
again.
[I could go east I could go west it was all up to me to decide. Just then I
saw a young hawk gliding, and my soul began to rise.]
Reminded of his love at home, he decided that he would go east, to his wife's
waiting arms. Hopefully their marriage would solve the problems he had back
home.
[And pretty soon, my heart was singing... Roll, roll me away, I'm gonna roll
me away tonight. Gotta keep on rollin' gotta keep on searching 'till I find
what's right.]
Ranma sourly missed his Akane, and was eager to get back to see his child
born. He pulled a picture out and smiled. Soon Akane, soon!
A very pregnant Akane, in the care of her older sister Kasumi, sneezed. She
smiled, she knew he was thinking about her, and could almost feel his strong,
warm arms around her, cradling her as she dozed off each night.
[And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first star out. I said,
"Next time, next time we'll get it right."]
Ranma vowed to himself as he mad his way to Toukyou, finally on Japanese soil
again, that he would raise his child right, with Akane, now away form her. No
stupid seppuku promises, no Neko-ken, no sexist bullshit."
[Roll me away.]
[Roll me away, tonight.]
[Roll me away.]
It was raining, and a man walked down the streets, with an umbrella, wanting
to be dry for his surprise. He approached the gate of the Tendou compound,
entered, and knocked on the door.
The door opened revealing a woman, with short black hair, and a large belly.
"Hello husband," Akane beamed, eyes locking with Ranma's.
"Hello wife, how are you, and how's my child?" Ranma said, returning his
wife's smile. He was awarded with a light embrace, and a passionate kiss him.
He felt the baby kick, and was delighted, returning the kiss with equal
passion.
When they broke their kiss, Akane spoke softly, and seductively, which was
surprising all things considered. "I would hope that that answers your
questions, dear. It's good to see you.
"I have a present for you. Let's go inside and I'll show you." he said,
motioning for them to enter.
In the living area, he held a glass of water and pored it on himself for her,
and didn't change. "I got a cure so I could be a complete husband for you and
a complete father for ou...urk! Akan.mmf!" he said as he was bowled over by
the woman he loved, and kissed with more passion than before. He quickly
returned the kiss.
Soun came into the living area with Genma to play Shogi, and bitch about
Genma's good-for-nothing son who abandoned his fiancee, who came back from
searching for him, pregnant, and seemingly okay with it. That was until they
found Soun's very pregnant daughter on top of..."RANMA, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!"
bellowed both Genma and Soun.
Ranma, surprised, looked up from Akane and towards his old man and
Father-in-law. "I was becoming a complete man for my beautiful wife!" he
remarked. Soun and Genma, stood for a moment, dumbfounded, but eventually
came to the right conclusion, miraculously!
Both started dancing around joyously, "Yeah, our families are joined!!"
Until Akane's water broke.
Ranma held his daughter with his wife for a picture.
"What would you like to name her?" the doctor asked the new parents.
Ranma looked into Akane's eyes before responding, receiving her silent
approval. "Datsushiko, Child of my escaping." stated Ranma proudly. FLASH!
The camera went off.
The End.
Author's notes:
Hi all. It's been a while since I had heard "Roll Me Away," but when I did,
it really struck a chord in me. Something about most of Bob Segar's music
does that to me. Anyway, I got to hear it yesterday, in a commercial for his
greatest hits, so I got on Nabs and downloaded it, of course she then charged
me 10,000 Yen (okay, I know, it was a bad pun!). Anyway, I was then listing
to it while reading Ranma Fanfiction (did you think that I read anything
else?) and the idea came into being. I hope you enjoyed it.
