My rant concerns Sailor Moon. I only saw the series up to the fight with with Beryl, but no matter that it's heroes are young teens, I'm irked by the fundimental premise the story rests on, as well as the fanfics I read about it.
Don't get me wrong, there is some good writing out there that I've enjoyed, but I just can't get over the thought that the Sailors are fighting all these would-be conquerers just so they can allow most of Earth's population to die, then rule what's left themselves.
Granted, they don't know this themselves in the beginning, but of the serious fanfics I've read, only a few even question this assumption, and only one that I found, (that I lost to a drive crash and haven't found since), the Senshi, including Sailor Moon, give their allegiance to a reincarted relative of Serena's, who wants make a different future.
Actually, I feel Pluto can be termed a villan as bad if not orse than Beryl, because Beryl only wants to conqurer the planet, not depopulate it.
She hunts down and destroys anyone she feels threatens her mastery of time, and even in crossovers such as "From Weird to Weirder", she sets the others to kill Ranma and his friend because she foretells his compassion would affect Usagi to such an extent that she wouldn't let the events necessary for Crystal Tokoyo to happen.
Okay, with that off my chest, can anyone direct me to any Sailor Moon stories where the Sailors refused to go along with Pluto's genocidal plans. If you do, e-mail the locations to me, and if anyone else is interested in seeing if there are some, contact me and I'll share the results.
We're finally close to the end of my message. The ideas I have are some I haven't seen in print, so if someone has already written about them, sorry about that.
How would the story have gone if Beryll's generals had done basic reconnisance beforing sending in youma, and found an advertisement for blood doners for pay. The Dark kingdom could produce all the gold and jewels they wanted, or heal injuries and diseases that modern human medicine couldn't. What if from that they set up a legitimate business to openly buy energy from people?
When the Sailors discovered this fact, if they attacked, they would be doing a criminal act, and their enemies would be protected by the very people they wanted to conquer
