Being a monk does not automatically mean you're celibate, it just

means you live in a monastery and are part of a religious order--

which in turn might or might not have rules about being celibate.

Or it might just mean temporary celibacy--married men in Thailand who

become monks are celibate _while_ they're monks, not for their whole =

lives.

Not sure if this is applicable to Buddhism in general or just certain =

sects.

I'm hard-pressed to think of monastic life that _doesn't_ include =

celibacy.

Also the monks that threw Zhang out of Germania was in all probabilities

Christians. I'm no expert on monastic orders but chastity/celibacy is, =

as far as

I know, required for Christian monks and nuns (it would be unfair to the =

priests otherwise). Then again, I don't know about any Christian =

warrior-monk=20

orders either (The Templars, Hospitalers et al. don't count as monks).

Maybe I should add (before people start commenting on it) that I know =

that

the priests in some denominations are allowed to marry, but these =

denominations

generally don't have monks and nuns.

Let's stop this discussion now before the moderators have to step in.
