Yuka awoke in Jun's bed. She had expected that, so that was no cause of
alarm. The fact that someone had apparently tied a dangling letter above
her head, addressed to her and Jun was a bit of a concern, though. The main
thing that occupied her mind was Jun laying underneath her, with her arms
loosely wrapped around Yuka's waist. Blushing, she reached out her arms and
feet and slowly lifted herself off of Jun without waking the wrestler.
With the grace of a swan, Yuka pushed off with her left side and pulled
with her right, sending her spinning onto the floor with a thump (1).
Getting up, she noticed Jun was still asleep. Smiling at the taller girl,
Yuka pulled a blanket up over her. Then, she focused on the letter. She
plucked it from it's perch and opened it.
Quite simply, it was a typed letter from RG informing Yuka and Jun that
Miranda would challenge them in the next seven days or so. However, in
sloppy hand writing below the cleanly written part was written, "Get a room,
you two. :P"
Yuka tossed it into the trash and went to make breakfast. Then she would
see if Jun had any spare clothes for her to wear. She had been so focused
the past few days that changing clothes had been a nonexistant concern. And
a bath was probably in order. Of course, Jun didn't seem to have one in her
apartment.
As Jun suddenly sat up behind her, Yuka turned. The wrestler sniffed
herself, then winced before announcing, "Time for a bath."
Yuka decided not to ask.
The fear in old 20th century public baths was that perverts often tried
peeping. Notorious perverts peeped regularly. So, a very harsh set of
protocol when into their reconstruction or additions. Successful peeping
was no longer a possibility. The wall separating the two baths was raising
all the way to the ceiling and divided in two parts, so that anyone who
tried to drill a hole through would have to drill through two walls and
they'd have to get through two inches of hollow metal, which would shriek
and make a cacophony of sound if it were drilled through.
Cameras also watched the wall carefully, so no hand-sized lasers would be
able to get through. The ducts above were plentiful, but far too narrow for
any man to look in and trip wires alerted the security as to any potential
modified viewing devices. The windows were one way, so no telescopes could
look in and the edges were electrified so perverts who tried to open the
window would get a nasty shock. And should the skillful pervert wear
gloves, the lines were also hot, so an unwary pervert would get burned. In
all, it was the best anyone could possibly do to keep out the evil perverts
who would dare look in on bathing women.
So, why did Yuka feel there was a precausion they didn't take? Obviously,
they had counted on the perverts being on the outside trying to look in.
They had never counted on the perverts on the inside not wanting to leave.
"Come on it, Yuka! The bath's nice and hot!" Jun called.
Yuka did her best to ignore the hoots from Jun as she approached the bath
and climbed in. With a heavy sigh, she began to wonder if Elena was even
aware of what it was like to have an admirer like Jun. Then, she recalled
Elena's 'Bunnies'. It was obvious that Elena did.
"Can we mop the floor?" came a voice from behind Yuka.
"Uh, why are you ask...ing...." Jun began to inquire before glancing behind
her.
Jun quickly leapt away as a foot slammed into the side of the bath and
shattered the concrete-covered tile. Yuka rolled away and to her feet as
the bath water flowed out of the bath, slowly draining away thanks to the
numerous drains on the floor. Ignoring the cut on her cheek, Yuka looked at
their attacker and noticed that it was Jun. Or rather a blue-haired Jun and
a purple-haired clone of herself. Both were dressed in the same fighting
uniforms that the original girls wore, only the color of the non-white cloth
was a light blue.
"What the-" Yuka asked.
"Mistress Jahana wished us to take care of you, so we will." the Jun-clone
sneered.
The Jun-clone leapt at Yuka while the Yuka-clone launched herself at Jun.
Yuka ducked the jump-kick, noting that while strong, the Jun-clone was not
as skilled as the real Jun. The clone knew all of Jun's attacks, but failed
to execute them with the same fiery attitude and talent, but rather with
sheer arrogance.
Jun was noting the same of the Yuka-clone. The inner strength of the
original Yuka was sorely lacking in the clone, replaced with a odd
desperation, like a thrashing child. The Yuka-clone made a very painful
mistake by overextending a punch, allowing Jun to grab the wrist.
"Not good enough, clone." Jun snarled.
With a snap of the wrist and a mighty leap, the Yuka-clone was introduced
to Jun's devastating back-breaker techniques and submission holds. Yuka was
dodging the Jun-clone's attacks with ease, retaliating viciously with a
number of kicks and upper-cuts despite the slippery floor. The Jun-clone
was having a lot more trouble on the floor than Yuka was, making her attacks
and defense ease to get by. The fight would have continued had the
Yuka-clone not cried out, "THIS ISN'T FUN ANYMORE!"
The Jun-clone stopped trying to fight Yuka altogether and hurried over to
where the Yuka-clone was on the floor crying. The Yuka-clone hugged the
Jun-clone and proceeded to sob into the Jun-clone's bosom while Jun and Yuka
watched awkwardly.
"What did you do?" Yuka asked.
"Just a full-body submission hold. I didn't even put much pressure into it
and she started crying. Most people can last about a minute at least." Jun
responded.
That seemed to be a cue, which resulted in Yuki Asamiya entering the bath,
fully-clothed.
"Of course not. They're clones. They act tough and probably did a lot of
training to be able to imitate us, but they're didn't do any toughening up.
Basically, they can dish it out, but they can't take it." Yuki answered,
marching over to the two clones, who parted to look fearfully at the
newcomer.
"What are you going to do?" Yuka asked.
"Read their minds, then kill them. They're just clones, after all." Yuki
answered harshly.
"They may be illegally made and against all sorts of treaties, but they're
still living beings! They deserve a chance to live!" Yuka protested.
"Fine, I'll just read their minds." Yuki snapped, grabbing the Yuka-clone
roughly by the forehead.
"I didn't know anyone in VG could read minds..." Jun began as a reddish
energy began surrounding Yuki.
"It's a bit rare, but not entirely impossible." Yuka replied as she and Jun
wrapped their towels around themselves.
After roughly five seconds, Yuki snarled, clenched her hand and flung the
Yuka-clone against the wall, causing the clone to crater the wall, before
roughly grabbed the Jun-clone by the skull. Growling angrily, Yuki hefted
the cloned girl and smashed her against the tile floor.
"Hey, that was uncalled for!" Jun demanded.
"They're just puppets. Miranda is using them to provoke me." Yuki repeated
aloud to herself, before heading out of the bath.
"Stop!" Yuka demanded, standing in Yuki's way.
"What is it?" Yuki asked, clearly irritated.
"Just because you don't like the things you saw doesn't give you a right to
hurt them that much." Yuka told her.
"Oh, they're innocent, I know that. But, what Miranda has done is
unforgiveable. Besides, she might try and manipulate these two into
fighting against you later. I had to cripple them temporarily to prevent
that." Yuki responded.
"What did you see that made you so mad?" Yuka asked.
The silence began tangible as Yuki struggled not to explode with anger at
the question. Finally, she answered, "She's brought my mother back to life
as one of her toys."
Falling silent at the answer, Yuka did nothing as Yuki left.
Azumi stared at the unconcious clone via the window. In the light of day,
she noticed that the clone of her sister had bright red hair. Had it not
been dark in her study, the difference would've been more easily spotted.
But the more curious question was why her sister's clone was attached to so
many machines.
[My sister's clone couldn't have been that critically injuried, could it?]
Azumi asked herself.
"Miss Asamiya?" came the inquiry.
Azumi turned to look at both the Earth Investigation Bureau agent and the
doctor.
"We have some... serious news concerning the genetically altered clone of
your sister. Would you mind speaking in private?" Doctor David Martin
inquired.
Azumi shook her head and followed the duo to a sound-proof room which only
had a table, four chairs and an overhead light. Azumi sat opposite of the
doctor and EIB agent.
"As you know, the United Earth Government put a ban on cloning and genetic
manipulation. Unfortunately, due to some minor error, the two were always
considered different. Genetic manipulation is actually legal in some cases,
where there is a 70% or greater chance of a child developing a physical or
mental disability. The law comes into effect when it is used to take a
species' core DNA and alter it to create an entirely new creature. Cloning,
on the other hand, is totally illegal, but the law pertains to an almost
perfect copy, at least a 95% or more match to the original DNA. From what
we could deduce, the 'clone' of your sister has only a 90% match to your
sister's DNA." EIB agent answered.
"So, what? The person who made it is just going to get off scot-free?"
Azumi demanded.
"No. It's still illegal, but the actual problem is what you want to do
with her. Clones are supposed to be destroyed as they could go insane or
become involved in violent crimes that would incriminate the original
person. However, the policy on genetic manipulated creatures is to study
them thoroughly to see what sort of impace they could have on most given
environment, then have a world-wide vote on whether or not the creatures
should be allowed to be released or if they should be kept in permenant
confinement." the EIB agent replied.
"Like those creatures made after the Pokemon game." Azumi noted.
"Right. Only a third of those were allowed into the surrounding
environment." the EIB agent agreed.
"However, there is something I should mention. You see, the clone of your
sister has become genetically unstable. There is a procedure that can be
performed on her if you wish to let her live, but it is rather costly. It
ranges from a mere 100,000 yen to 2,000,000,000 yen." Doctor Martin
announced.
"WHAT?! What's unstable about her and what in the world could cost
2,000,000,000 yen?!" Azumi demanded.
"Well, it's seems that part of her DNA wasn't correctly copied. What we do
is try and replace it with either a correct section of DNA from your sister
or from someone else. It costs a lot more if we delay this decision as her
actual cellular makeup will begin to decay." Doctor Martin answered.
"So, what you're saying is the longer we delay, the more expensive it
gets." Azumi noted.
"It also grows more expensive the number of times we have to try to splice
in the correct DNA. If this clone is failing because of an incorrect
section, the copy that we have may be flawed too. If that's so, we'll have
to splice in someone else's DNA." Doctor Martin answered.
"My sister is very important to me, even if we don't get along. I don't
want to see even a clone of her to do." Azumi announced, before adding in,
"Let's do whatever it takes to save her."
"I'll contact headquarters and begin the paper process. You'll need to
come up with a name for the clone so we can create her official records."
EIB agent answered.
Azumi nodded and sighed. Even a clone of her sister was becoming
troublesome.
Miranda sighed. It was to be expected that the clones would be less than
the originals, but already, they were making a pathetic showing.
"Well, the good doctors did warn me that there might be flaws. Besides, it
was my fault for not toughening them up." Miranda told herself.
Saki laid curled up next to Miranda, purring contently like a cat napping.
Miranda looked at the remaining clones. Something had to be done in order
to make them worthwhile. She only had roughly six more days, depending on
how much of an assh*le that RG was.
"What shall we do, Saki? We've got to do something to make these clones
strong enough to handle fighting their original counterparts." Miranda
murmurred.
Saki's eyes opened. Miranda grinned.
"How could I have forgotten..." Miranda mused to herself.
One thing Reimi Jahana prided herself on was being able to find out things.
Occassionally, she needed help, but for the most part, her information
networks were extensive enough to provide everything she needed about ninety
percent of the time. Another thing she prided herself on was being able to
take news better than most people would, especially when it came to her own
mother. So, when she heard her mother had made clones of the other
remaining VG fighters, she wasn't surprised to find a clone of herself in
her own massive office.
"Are you here to try and capture me or just kill me?" Reimi asked
nonchalantly.
"Worried about what I might do?" the Reimi-Clone inquired.
"I'm just trying to plan my day." Reimi responded.
The clone had little sense of humor, let alone patience. It leapt at
Reimi, who smirked and dodged it's jump kick. With ease, the leader of the
Jahana Corporation avoided attack after attack with the grace of a fairy.
"You seriously think because you have my body and can imitate my attacks
that you can beat me?" Reimi asked, dodging another punch and retaliating
with a lightning fast grab to her clone's throat.
Coughing and struggling to free herself, the clone lashed out with a kick
which struck Reimi squarely in the cheek. Reimi snorted, despite the bruise
forming on her cheek.
"Is that the best mother could do?" Reimi asked rhetorically before sending
the clone flying into the ceiling with an energy wave.
The clone slammed into the ceiling, then fell to the floor. Red lightning
arced from Reimi into her clone, knocking it out.
[Mother is getting too sloppy.] Reimi noted to herself.
Concentrating for a moment, Reimi decided on a plan of action and reached
for her phone. It was then that she noticed another figure in the room.
She dodged as a flying kick slammed into her desk and shattered the closest
side. Reimi noticed the newcomer and frowned. Sensing someone behind her,
Reimi dodged to the right, avoiding a tornado strike from another clone.
Satomi Yajima and Elena Goldsmith's clones stood before Reimi. Reimi knew
the clones couldn't normally take much damage, but judging from the thick
and distinct XKB-9000 golden tiaras around both of her opponents' heads, the
two new intruders could now take damage and deal it out tenfold.
[Mental note to self: Kill mother for creating XKB-9000.] Reimi thought to
herself.
After a bit of after-thought, Reimi mentally added, [After thanking her for
making something that goes with almost every outfit.]
"Reimi, I've got to talk with you about something that's come up, it seems
that someone made some illegal... clones..." Kaori Yanase began, walking
into the room and starting towards Reimi before noticing the two menacing
intruders.
"Kaori, this isn't the time to talk about that." Reimi answered.
The Satomi-clone leapt at Kaori, lashing out with a kick which Kaori
dodged. However, the shockwave caused by the attack sent her stumbling.
"What was that?!" Kaori asked.
"They're wearing XKB-9000s. It increases strength, stamina and speed while
numbing pain and fatigue. They can also use twice as many energy attacks as
before." Reimi answered, blocking a vicious punch from the Elena clone.
"XKB-9000s? I thought those only increase energy attacks." Kaori inquired,
leaping over the Satomi-clone's hook kick and finding herself hurtling
backwards due to the excess force.
"That's the official report. Mother made them to go with military
organizations. A soldier can be lethally shot and survive for over fifteen
minutes. Unfortunately, after ten minutes of fighting, the soldier's body
becomes unreviveable, even if they managed to get him to an operating table.
It would've saved lives if not for the other factors which slowly drive
someone insane or berserk after prolonged use." Reimi responded, kneeing the
Elena clone in the stomach and blasting the bunny girl's clone across the
room.
Kaori rolled to her feet and launched a ki blast via her foot, which
slammed into the Satomi clone, but didn't do any visible damage.
"How long is prolonged?" Kaori inquired.
"Over twenty-four hours. After that, it can't be used safely for a week."
Reimi replied.
"We can discuss this later." Kaori declared, rolliing away from a sidekick
and the resulting shockwave.
Reimi murmurred in agreement, raising an energy barrier as the Elena clone
launched a barrage of rapid punches. Gripping Elena's right hand while
keeping the barrier taut, Reimi pulled the bunny girl clone towards her and
then let go, the resulting backlash sending the clone crashing to the far
wall.
Kaori wasn't fairing even half as well as Reimi was. The Satomi clone knew
how to use the shockwave of it's attacks to it's advantage, knocking Kaori
around, then attacking directly, causing enough more damage to the kickboxer
via the shockwave. Then, the clone landed a solid punch to Kaori's stomach.
Tears welled up in Kaori's eyes out of reflex, before she snapped back
with a rising knee to the chin. The Satomi clone collapsed, completely
unconscious. Kaori blinked.
"Huh. I wonder if the real Satomi has a glass jaw as well." Kaori pondered
before following the clone's example and falling unconscious.
Reimi growled in frustration. The fact that a clone, even if enhanced with
the XKB-9000, had beaten her rival infuriated her. The Elena clone was
getting up, a perfect target to vent some rage.
Miranda sighed in frustration. She had hoped that XKB-9000's ability to
increase the clones incredible damaging capacity would compensate for their
inability to take damage, but it seemed doomed to failure.
"Well, I guess you just can't go wrong with an original, can you, Saki?"
Miranda asked.
Saki purred.
"Time to stop playing with my little darlings and teach them a lesson.
First up, I think I'll visit a good friend of mine..." Miranda responded.
===============================================================================================
(1) I said the grace of a swan, not the agility of a cat. Besides, that's
Manami's schtick.
What cacophony of villiany does Miranda have in store?
What the hell did the title of this chapter have to do with anything?
Did the author think to try and lighten the mood or was he just being a
dork?
Will he explain a damn thing?
Chapter 9: Friend or Foe - The Heroine's Dilemma
Okay, I rewrote this chapter entirely because I'm having trouble getting my
D drive back. Even swapping it to another computer isn't helping, because a
family member of mine accidentally messed with an unknown program hoping to
get access to our CD-drive. This family member thought they were doing a
good thing, but they wound up making it worse. They meant well, but if they
do this again, I'm buying an ice cream cone to shove up their left nostril.
In any case, I'm now trying to pull things out of my butt to try and fix it
without reformatting the entire drive, because it's a damn good drive filled
with a lot of delicate and almost irreplaceable information, most of it
webcomics and animated pics that are nigh-impossible to find nowadays,
because the sites the hosted them went down. Not to mention the stuff I was
monkeying around with to make a VG webpage is also on there.
On my webpage, you'll notice I managed to find a picture of Miranda, thanks
to a German site, JASMS. If you can read German and want to find out who
the german actresses are or just if you just like looking at the pretty
pictures, here's the web address:
http://jasms.freepage.de/anime/vg/vg_start.html
And if you want to see the original company's webpage, visit
http://www.tgl.co.jp
I also found a number of other sites that have VG information and
nifty-keen stuff like that. I'll slowly post them on my webpage. And my
site is now listed at Akemi's Anime World Link List.
