Subject: [FFML] [FF][GSC][Some lemony bits, particularly at the end] Back in
the Saddle
Just thought I'd comment and let you know that I really enjoyed this
fic; GSC fics are so rare that I'll take whatever I can get, but this one
was well worth the time. It was very much a Sonoda-esque storyline (I
especially liked the paper guns- if that's really possible, I've got some
swampland in Florida you might be interested in buying...)
That being said, I have some teeny-tiny issues about your
characterization of Rally. No that fact that she's portrayed as having
lesbian feelings, far from it. (I get the feeling, though, that Rally's bi
if she's anything. She seems the type to be capable of liking either gender,
so long as the person is nice... And is willing to put up with a firearms
fetish)
What I'm referring to is the ease with which she accepts her feelings
for Cowboy. You did a nice job of portraying some conflicting emotions, but
Rally has been through some rather strange shit with lesbians in the past.
Goldie's torture sessions spring to mind, stereotypical though the character
might be. I would've liked to see a little more resistance to the idea,
given the traumatic nature of her experiences with Goldie. (The Goldie arc
was serialized by Dark Horse in the GSC Bad Trip miniseries, if you haven't
read it)
I also had a slight problem with Rally's brief condemnation of
Minnie-May's relationship with Ken- she never seemed to have any problem
with them in the original, although that could just be a matter of differing
interpretations of the source material.
Cowboy herself could've stepped right off the page of Sonoda's manga,
though. Good job with her. I don't know if it was deliberate, but she seemed
very much like a Japanese's idea of an American- the cowpoke lingo, Texas
origins and all.
The lemon scene at the end was very nice, tastefully done while
remaining erotic and sensual, without the prurience one often finds in
shoujo-ai pairings written by either sex. Good job, once more.
All in all, I'd be eager to read any other GSC stories you may have in
mind, so get writin'! ^_^
