I think this fic is sort of appropiate for now, in light of the recent tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and the families of all the innocent people who died in this atrocity. I just hope that the US will retaliate in like. May God/Goddess/Buddah, or who ever you believe in be with us all.

Dark Future

This wasn't supposed to happen...No burst dreams falling around me,
mixing with the shrapnel that fills the air like smoke. The attack
wasn't supposed to do this, history told me it would just be the next
Ice Age... Sharp pain in my leg, can't feel the limb anymore. But I
don't care. Don't care about the rich red blood seeping from my thigh,
or how the glass went completely through my leg. Buildings collapsing
as I limp through the streets towards the body ahead of me, drawing me.
It glows pale silver in the dust and ash clogged air. Or maybe it's just
lack of oxygen to my brain. Doesn't really matter right now.

Light pours up and out of the wound in her chest, a silver, iridescent
blood. Her long blonde hair a mass of matted blood from her shattered
skull and imploded eye. The bombs did this. Just the mere thought of the
word causes me to glance up to the dark sky like a twitch you can't
control. Something glinting at the edge of my vision draws my eyes towards
the woman's body again. I kneel on both legs, ignoring the flow of blood
creeping towards her body, ignoring the fiery pain that chased back the
numbness for a brief second. I should have gone to a hospital...But there
weren't any left. Nothing was left. Except for a small, delicate white
crystal sitting in the middle of a wound bleeding moonlight. It called to
me. It wasn't supposed to call to me.

Reaching out, I barely have my hand clasped around it when the steel bar
gets flung into my spine. It snaps instantly and the cold petals of a painful
flower curl into every limb and drain the strength, the fire...the light.
I knew I was paralyzed. Knew it when I fell forward onto the body, glow fading
now without the crystal. Black wine seeped out between my lips and caressed
my chin before falling onto the glazed eye of the corpse beneath me.

The crystal was pulsing in my hand, instinctively I knew it was trying to
heal me...But I knew it was too late. As another piece of steel was falling,
aiming for my head, my last thoughts were on the corpse beneath me. I tried
to cover that delicate face full of horror and pain before we were crushed.
My arms twitched, but my spine was completely shattered. And looking into
her eyes, there was only one thing I could say.

"I'm so sorry, Princess, it wasn't supposed to happen this way." And with
that, a chunk of steel from the collapsing Tokyo Tower snuffed out the life
of Mei'ou Setsuna and the last hope for a different future.
