Kodachi knew the truth now. She had been as
foolish as her 'dear brother'.
Deciving herself into beleviving that anyone like
Ranma could love her. He only recused her.
That's what Ranma did, rescue people. She could see
that now. Deceiving herself into beleviving anyone
could love her. Her brother didn't give a damn,
Sasuke cowered from fear, her father was mad and
mother was so... far away. She looked around her room.
She shook her head. All the momemtos. Nothing but
junk.

She didn't like being forced out of her room. She
felt to weak to prrotest though. Sasuke said it was
for her own good. Pushed into the day, like a newborn
cut from the womb. It was Sasuke's idea of course.
Tatewaki, didn't like having her tagging along. He
was moving along far faster then she could move now.
She did have enough enegry to leap, just shuffle
along. It was winter and the air felt bitter. She
kicked the snow with her feet.
He glanced behind him scowling. "Wilts thou spend
less time tarrying and move at a swifter pace?"
She glared at him and purposefully slowed down. "I'm
fine brother dear." her voice came out as flat
monotone, dead like the dried brown leaf.
Her brother waited then growing more impatient.
"Sister, banish from thee melancholy spirits," He
grabbed her hand. "And now come with me, for the
highest cultural enlightment!"
She reisisted, she dragged her feet, at the moment
attacking him seemed unworth the effort. What was
this cultural enlightment he was babbling about. She
noticed they were going into one of those little
ecenteric coffe shops, college students and other
weirdos often hung out here. Just what was her brother
doing here? That's when she saw the sign written in
chalk on the blackboard:
OPEN MIKE
POETRY READING
TONIGHT.
It made sense.

Letters from across the seas
Roses dipped in sealing wax
Valentines and maple leaves
Tucked into a paperback

Once inside, her brother was promptly distracted by
harssing the poor person in charge of the order in
which the poets read. She went thte counter got an
expresso and sat down. It would be better if Tatewaki
went first, she thought. Then they could be out of
here faster. She sipped her expresso.
A few moments later, Kuno joined his sister, at the
table she sat. "Alas, these poor misguided fools have
not sheduled me to read first they deprive the
audience," Kuno sighed. "Oh well, I suppose it tis for
the better. Last time they were so dazzled by
excellence they didn't applaud. Having a talent as
great as I am read first would be unfair to the others
for they might be to intimidated to read."
Yeah that was reason thought Kodachi rolled her
eyes and sipped her expresso to hide a slight smirk.
The coffe shop went dark. A single spot light shone
on a mircophone in the back of the shop. The man, who
had been aguring with Kuno so recently stepped up.
"Greetings, I'm Denzo Watanbe the manager here. I
would like to welcome you to the third annual amatuer
poetry reading. I hope you enjoy it....." Kodachi let
her mind slip, into a half drowzed state.
Kodachi watched as the first poet got up a female
college student dressed in bright clothing, no one
recongized and went on reading about highly personal
things like child abuse and being a lesiban in a angry
tone. Next was a old man, he read haikus, they had
been written over fifty years, despite that they all
seemed to be about the same thing. After those two
Kodachi, really stopped paying attention the constance
stream of words in different voices, just seemed to be
some kind of white noise.
She waited for Kuno to read so they could get out of
their.
Denzo Watanbe came up to announce yet another poet.
She sighed.
The sound of the microphone whining brought her
attention back. A figure cringed in the spot light. He
was skinny, had bad posture, uncombed black hair,
and dark rings under his eyes. He wore all black,
clutched a tattered notebook, frightened by the spot
light and sudden attention. Shen knew this boy, she
had seen him sometimes helping her brother or at
Furinkan high school. Hikaru Gosunkugi wasn't that his
name?
He looked up furtuivly into the crowd and began to
read in a nervous small voice. Intrigued she began to
listen.

Guess I'll throw them all away
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She had never liked poetry much, it always made her
think of her brother.
But this was different. Hikaru spoke of things she
knew all to well: lonlyness, being an outcast,
unrequited love and the dark places of the soul. His
voice was slowly gaining strength, the only
interputtion the sound of a page turning. He spoke
of emotions and darkness. She leaned in closer. He
was so much better then her brother, the poetry seemed
to come from a place inside him. Rather then a shallow
attempt at impressing people with how well bred you
were. These were emotions layed bare.
I found someone to love today
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was nothing like Ranma. Ranma seemed to to be
forever in a good mood.
Ranma was always strong, handsome and dashing. This
paper thin boy, who hunched over in the spotlight, was
whipsering about things of the grave and the rage of
getting sideways glances. She could understand this.
She knew the anguish and pain. Pools of inner
darkness, of which Ranma had hardly skimmed the
surface.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dark with darker moods is he
Not a golden Prince who's come
Through columbines and wizardry
To talk of castles in the sun
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was done. Hikaru thanked the audeince and they
appluaded. She watched as he shuffled back into the
darkness. A few people surronding him, giving him
small compliments. He sat down at a small and seculded
table. She got up. She took a deep breath. In his
verses he had said how deeply in love he was with
another. She almost turned around, was it worth
getting her heart broken again? She went to his
table. He was staring into his cup, stirring it with
a straw. She tapped him on the shoulder.

Still I'll take a chance and see
I found someone to love today

"Y-yes," He turned and looked up at at her. Unsure
and afraid. "K-kodachi?"Those eyes of his were so deep
and sad, almost unreal he could hardly look at her
instead he turned his face down to the floor. "I'm
sorry if you wanted this seat, I guess I'll be leaving
now." He sighed and started to get up.
She put her hand firmly on his shoulder.
"No don't leave." He looked up at her, with his black
hair and deep eyes his expression began to change
from sorrow to somethimg else.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a sorrow in his eyes
Like the angel made of tin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I've just come to say I really enjoyed your poetry."
She said sitting across from him.
"Oh, thank you." He blushed a bit.
"I can understand what it feels like to have
unrequited love. I can understand the darkness." She
palced her hands on top of his.
He blushed deeper and looked into his coffe. "I never
thought that...." His voice trailed off and he
started to move. With draw his hand maybe? Kodachi
knew she imitdated people, she waited for him to
leave. He'd run away just like Ranma all those before
Ranma just like her mother.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What will happen if I try
To place another heart in him?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm so glad you like it." He said, a small grin
spreading his face. It even reached his eyes. He took
his other hand and placed it on top of hers. Kodachi
smiled. The sun was setting and snow was falling out
side. But now they had warm to battle the cold and
darkness.
