The sad thing is that........its been done. In both the anime and manga,
there is a chapter about Motoko dreaming of them as characters in a RPG
computer game. Not quite D&D but close enough to make this idea a bit
harder
to persue.
Well, actually, if you are talking about the Beach-side episode, where
the gang does a play to entertain a group of kids, the story was based
on
an old chinese folk story Tripitaka the Monk, not a computer game. And
anyways, the episode was in a Eastern setting, so rendering the LH cast
in a Western-style D&D would be something quite fresh enough.
That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about when Keitaro dreamed
that he was in a game--actually, Motoko was the character who was kind of
focused on in that episode, since she was the only person who was grown up
during it, with all the others being as kids. Then by the end, she had to
turn herself into a kid to fight with the others.
In the anime, on thier quest, Mutsumi sang the turtle song! Easily the best
part of the entire anime! :)
