There doesn't appear to be much or any stigma against intermarriage between
natives and people who's families arrived after the US took over, so I'm
not sure how much sting calling someone 'half-breed' would have. Sam is a
mixture and I haven't noticed her being treated differently because of it.
For her part, Lara isn't in any particular hurry. So she ambles back to
school. Even at this hour, the administrative offices remain open. With a
pleasant smile to the receptionist, she requests the use of the phone{, :} and
summons Chou.
