Jack Vance? I am impressed. Don't hear much about him anymore.

Well, he isn't exactly obscure. You can find omnibuses of most of his
major fantasy and sf - Dying Earth, Planet of Adventure, the Demon Princes -
at any Borders, B&N or a good SF book shop. But admittedly he isn't as well
appreciated in the States as he should be. From what I've heard he sells much
better over in Europe. At least the SFWA saw fit to give him a Grand Master's
Award before he was on his death bed, unlike poor old Alfred Bester.

Do a search for the Jack Vance Integral Edition. This outfit plans on
releasing sixty volumes of Vance's major work in SF, Fantasy and Mystery in
nice leather bound editions. A worthy cause, even if the head of the project
seems to be something of a pretentious ass...

FYI: L. Ron Hubbard did something similar in "Slaves of Sleep"

BRRRR.... You're a braver man than I, reading LRH. From what I've
heard most of his work is dire. Then again, who am I to talk? I put down
two-hundred and fifty dollars plus tax for those Jules de Grandin folios I
showed you a few days back, and critics like S.T. Joshi routinely dismiss
Seabury Quinn as a talentless, no account hack.

and there was a robot in "Anton York, Immortal" by Eando Binder who
lived in a dream world (Unfortunately of 12 dimensions, so creations from
that world wouldn't work in ours)

The only Binder I've read was the story 'I, Robot'. I found it to be
all right, but nothing to make me search out more of his/their work. I don't
read much SF anymore, being more interested right now in the Weird Tales
tradition.

Interesting little vignette. A nice read.

Thanks for the kind words. Was there anything in particular about the
story that struck you, or was the tale too slight for that?

Anyhow, I've prattled enough. Thanks for your time and tolerance.
