I think you might have some misconceptions about the point of C&C. It's
not to "hammer" people or to punish them for writing in certain genres.
The point of C&C is to give an honest opinion on the story in question.
I don't mean to sound sarcastic here, but... this has never killed
anybody. Yes, it can feel bad to have someone tell you that your story
needs work. And maybe this person just has expectations that don't fit
what you're trying to do with the story. But on the other hand, maybe
there's something you can learn from the feedback, and isn't that why
we're here?
Hear, hear. That's the main reason I came here, because I need good hard
well thought out criticism. I can never understand when I see someone
blasting a C&Cer for saying something needs work. I suck at C&C, I'm too...
limited. I'm only really familar with Ranma, Macross, Starblazers, and the
DH versions of Dirty Pair. My knowledge of AMG and SM are lacking in areas,
and I'm almost totally lacking in knowledge of the other series often
written about here, so I don't feel quailified to C&C much of what crosses
this list, yet whenever I've recieved C&C, regardless of how nice or nasty,
I use it to improve my writing.
And of all of it, I prefer hard criticism that is well thought out. Yet
fairly often (and thankfully not on this list as much as elsewhere) I see
people rejecting anything other than "Great Story" as being flamed. Why did
you post and ask for commentary if all you want is a pat on the back? My
fanfic is my testbed, my learning experience, it's what I use to polish my
style for my attempts to become a published author with Jenny... If I don't
get told what I do wrong, how the hell can I fix it? I won't use
everything, because like Gary says, not everything fits the story, but
what's the point of crying when someone tells you "this needs to be fixed?"
If no-one cared to help you, they wouldn't have said *anything.*
Rejecting a helping hand, regardless of who it's from, is a sure way to make
sure no-one wants to help you.
Just my two cents, and all I'm going to say on the subject.
