him to a world he never expected.

-Prologue-

Leaping was never pleasant. Dr. Sam Becket, didn't
know how long he'd been leaping from one body to
another. Travelling in time had a number of nasty
side-effects, with his least favorite being what Al 
referred to as the Swiss Cheese Effect.

Now, as usual, he was standing around in a new
body, his mind filled with holes and his skin covered
with rocks. He wondered if they were some kind of
ornamentation and went to tug on one of them. It
did not budge. He started trying to scrape off 
whatever was holding the rock onto his skin. It was
then he discovered it was not skin, but some kind
of rock, solid and  hard as granite, and smooth as
onyx, but with all the flexibility of human skin.

"Hey!"  a woman's voice called, turning his attention
to a group of three people who were toughing it out
against something that looked like a monster from 
one of Sam's childhood nightmares. "Zelgadis! How
about a hand?"

The monster rounded on Sam, who understood he
had leapt into the body of somebody named Zelgadis,
and Sam managed to squeak out a less than encouraging
"Oh boy."

-Chapter 1-

Sam didn't know what to do about this creature.
It was far bigger than anything he had ever dealt
with before. Still, the red haired woman who had
called out to him, or rather to Zelgadis, seemed to
think he could handle it.

"Al, what do I do?" he asked, desperately. Maybe
Zelgadis could tell Al how to deal with the monster.
"Al? Can you hear me?"

"Miss Lina," the dark haired woman called out, "I
think Mr. Zelgadis is freaking out."

"Well, then," the red-haired woman, replied. "We'll just 
have to.... RUN FOR IT!"  She turned and ran as fast 
as she could with her other two companions just behind 
her.

Sam turned and followed, Once everyone had stopped,
and was ocupied with dinner, he found a quite spot and
leaned on a tree.

"Al, where are you?"

This time the door opened and the familiar form of his good
friend stepped through.

"Sam, you're not going to believe the stuff this guy can do.
Ziggy and the others have just being going gaga over him
ever since he got here."

"Al, would you mind telling me where I am, why I look so
weird, and what the hell is going on?"

"Well, it's too early to know exactly what's going on," Al
replied, checking his leap calculator, "as for the other two
questions, as near as I can make out, you've leaped outside
our reality and into the animated reality of a Japanese program
called Slayers. Your name is Zelgadis Greywood and according
to this..." he pulled a Slayers Character Guide from his pocket,
and opened it.  "you're a young man who was turned into a 
Chimera when you sought to improve your fighting and magic
using abilities. Since you were first cursed, you've been seeking
a cure, with it appears no success. You've been ashamed of
your body since the day it happened. I don't know why. A lot of
women would love a man who was ..."

"Just tell me more about this magic that this Zelgadis guy is
supposed to be able to do. What kind of magic?"

"Well, apparently he can do spells involving words like Ra-Tilt, 
and Ghozu-Vro. But I'm not sure exactly what they do. I'll have
to find out more."  Al stepped through the door which closed
leaving only the air in its place.

"Al, how am I supposed to do this magic stuff if I don't even 
know what it is?" Sam asked as Lina walked into view.

-Chapter 2-

"Uh, Zel'," Lina asked. "Who were you talking to?"

"Um. well..." Sam wasn't sure how to explain Al
to his new acquaintance. 

"Zel, you had better not be betraying us ." Lina 
warned. "I'll give you to the count of three to tell 
me. Then, I'll blast you.  One... Two..."

Fortunately, Al picked that moment, to pop back
in.

It was rare that anyone could see Al. But Lina
had no trouble making out the new door that
had just opened up onto her world, or the man
who was standing in it, his fingers working on
some kind of device with lots of flashing lights
on it.

"Zel," Lina blinked. "who is this guy?"

"Um... Lina," Sam replied, "I'd like you to meet
Al. Al, this is Lina. She's a friend of mine."

"Charmed, I'm sure," Al frowned. "Are you sure
that's a woman? I mean, she doesn't have
any... well, you know..."

Lina glared and launched a fireball at Al. It missed 
Al, of course, but it felt good to her all the same

Sam wasn't quite so lucky, but Zelgadis's stone
skin didn't seem too badly affected by the spell.

"She looks fine to me," Sam told Al. "In fact, I
think Lina's a very pretty young lady."

"Do... do you really think so?" asked Amelia,
who had just walked into the clearing.

"Uh, Sam..." Al tried to warn.

"Very much so," Sam replied, honestly.

Amelia wiped her nose with her arm, then
ran off bawling.

"What's wrong with her?" Sam asked,
innocently.

"Well, according to Ziggy, Amelia is in love 
with Zelgadis."
