Whether that's true or not, it's not generally considered good practice to
change the spelling of words to match their pronounciation. If you did this in
English, yore riting mite bee a littel hard too reed. Even with Japanese words,
this is recognized as not a good thing. Nobody, I should think, wants to read a
scene in which Ranma calls Akane cow why coo nay. (The correct spelling, of
course, being "uncute.")
The only time this sort of thing *is* done is when you're translating an accent
or other unusual way of speaking. (Yes, Shampoo has an accent, but only while
she's speaking Japanese.) It would be reasonable to have Shamps say "Aiyah! Ah
do declaih!" if you were doing a Ranma/Gone With the Wind fusion. :)
