         There's an idea:  Kirk&Co are the multiverse's "allergic
reaction" to
Pluto -- a sort of chaotic free-will counterbalance to her deterministic
predestiation.

You can quite easily find a parallel in the future Starfleet officer in 
charge of temporal security, who was constantly having to go back and 
fix Janeway's screwups on Voyager. I think at some point he actually 
said the words, "Why is it ALWAYS Janeway?"
(Have heart, guardians of the timeline... she annoys the holy hell out 
of more than just you...)
