This is where I guessed the punchline.

Good call. It is a famous line that is associated with literature, if in an
unusual way. That was the first thing that sprang to mind, and then I
thought about how Yomiko might react and came up with this as a possiblity.

She's braver than I am, I put it back after the first page.

I did find the prose a bit bulky for my tastes, but it wasn't bad, as far as
high school book review assignments went.
