Part of the problem is actually the definition of College. In several
countries a college is a place for carrier oriented study taking place of
9-12th grades while a University is what we in America think of as both
college's and university's. Japan is one of the countries like the UK, and
Germany where after 9th grade you decide if you are going to try to get into
a University, or if you are going to go to a trade school - college. Now,
don't quote me as an expert on this as I do not know how universally this
difference between the definitions of college and university are, nor how
well they translate outside of English.

Yes, Joseph Palmer's message refreshed my memory, but unfortunately did
not appear until about half an hour after I sent mine.
One thing I consistantly see people getting wrong in fanfics in general
is how Japanese schools are set up.
Personally, I get more irritated when they go on to college...
I haven't looked into it closely but isn't the US almost alone in having
"US-style" colleges?
