even a crumb failed to make it to her destination.

Despite her friends' reassurances, Usagi still blamed
herself for allowing that monster to drain the people
who now lined the emergency ward.  While she did not
understand Ami's full diagnosis, she understood the
words, "...blood sugar is low.  If they don't eat
something soon, they'll die."  Usagi knew from
personal experience where to find high-calorie snacks
at this time of night on a weekend.  They did not have
many prepared, so Makoto volunteered to help them whip
up a second batch while Usagi packed and transported
what they had on hand.  She hoped with all her heart
that it would sustain the victims until better help
could arrive.
