In a bedroom, with a chest at the foot of the bed, Lina was
asleep. She clenched her eyes a bit and opened them. Sitting up, she
took some calming breaths.

Looking around at the familiar surroundings, Lina mumbled, "It
worked."

She got up and walked to the foot of the bed. Taking a deep breath,
she flung open the chest and looked inside. A lavender glow emanated
from the chest. Lina smirked, as she saw the items.

"And that worked also. The Blast Blade and my little toy made
it
as well."

Reaching in, she pulled out a lavender and silver sphere. She
smirked as she stared into it.

"My Crystal Knowledge Sphere, a repository of knowledge and
magic. This time around, I'll be a bit sneakier. That was way to
close. I've got to do the test again."

Lina went back and sat on the bed. "I wonder what changes have
occurred or will occur."

Laying back in the bed, Lina gave an amused snort. "All that
work to get there and prepare, and it came down to me pushing a button.
Darkstar and Vorfied should be out of it for a long time to come."

Tears trickled down Lina's face, as she kept staring into her
sphere. "I've gained knowledge and power, but....."

Lina's voice choked, as she started really crying. She dropped
the glittering gem sphere to her side, as her emotions wracked her.
After several long moments, the sobbing subsided. Lina wiped her eyes

"I guess I should get ready for that test," Lina said, as she
got
back up and started dressing. "Not pink. Not again. I've had the
color twice now."

She glanced down at the Blast Blade and the Crystal Knowledge
Sphere. She nodded, as she stared at them. Grabbing her mantle, she
put that on as well.

Affixing the Blast Blade to her belt, she mumbled, "My soul has
been merged with itself twice now. I know my magic has increased, but
I think I'll play it low key when I take the test."

---------------------------------------------------

As Lina headed outside the house she was sleeping at, she heard
a
voice calling.

        "Lina? Wait a minute?"

Shuddering very badly, Lina turned around. "H-hel-hello Luna.
Wh-what do you want?"

Luna stared down at her little sister with both hands on her
hips. "Where did you get that sword?"

Lina glanced sown at the sheathed Blast Blade and smirked. "A
little while ago, some bandits tried to attack me. I got rid of them,
and one of them dropped this sword. It was the only decent sword they
had. When I first got it, I thought about selling it. But, I do need
a sword."

Luna kept staring at Luna, while the younger girl started
sweated. "I see. That saves us a little bit of money."

Luna took a deep breath and stared at Lina. "You haven't been
learning any Black Magic spells have you?"

"I've learned all about Black Magic that I want of this world,"
Lina replied, as she thought. 'I spent way too much time with Xellos in
the first go around. I'm telling the truth, but not all the truth.'

Trying to read her little sister, the Knight of Cephied nodded.
"Good. I see you have developed some sense."

'Yes. Like to not tell you that I've been in a stand up fight
with a Dark Lord of another world, or that I had to do some travelling
among the other worlds and wound up back at the beginning..... Again,'
Lina thought to herself. 'I just want to carry on with my life. The
world does not need me to protect it.'

Lina sighed in relief, as Luna left. Checking her pockets, she
saw that she had enough money to do some research in the Zephilian
Sorcery Academy. Giving an amused snort, Lina let the coins flow
through her fingers.

'What do I want to research? Ra-Tilt? Dragon Slave? Blast
Bomb?' Lina thought with amusement. 'Yeah. Right. I know them all. I
probably better go after this world's White and Holy magic spells to
finish up the sphere's magical knowledge. Priest only spells. This is
not going to be easy.'

Lina sighed and shook her head. 'The smaller stuff. Research
spells and the like. Before I take that test, I'm going to see if I
can get him to give me the color lavender, if I pass. I've grown fond
of the color for some reason.'

--------------------------------------------

A few weeks later, Lina held up her lavender magicians robes.
Smirking, Lina thought, 'He agreed to the color, but didn't have time
to put all the lacy frills on.'

Lina walked home with a smile on her face. As she traveled, she
looked towards the horizon and placed her left hand on the hilt of her
sword.

"Home, then off to see the world," Lina said cheerfully, as she
mentally added, 'Maybe, I can put my life back together and forget....'

She saw Luna was waiting for her at the inn. Suppressing the
urge to run, Lina headed towards her older sister. She held the
lavender robes up and grinned.

"I got my color," Lina called.

Luna looked at the Wizard's Robe with one arched eyebrow. "Light

purple?"

"Lavender. I've grown fond of this color," Lina corrected, and
thought. 'My sphere turned into an amethyst sphere from all the
knowledge in it and the Blast Blade is lavender, so I can't see it as a
silly color.'

"Well, if you happy with it," Luna said with a frown. "So, what

are you going to do now?"

Lina folded the robe under her arm and pointed to the South. "I
intend to see the world. I just came home to let someone know that I'm
leaving."

Luna nodded. "You would do better away from home."

Lina turned and walked away, while she waved good-bye with her
right hand.

"Farewell, Luna. You might hear my name soon."

Luna watched as her younger sister strode confidently away. She

shook her head in sadness.

"You need to leave to grow, Lina. I just hope you can survive
the death of your arrogance. There are dozens of mages more powerful
than you. You already have a name: The magical maiden of mediocrity.
A moderately powerful sorceress with delusions of grandeur."

---------------------------------------

As soon as Lina was out of sight of the Zephilian border, she
let
out a long sigh of relief.

'I took all my willpower to keep from blasting through that test

with insane ease.'

Lina clenched her fists and shook with anger. 'If it wasn't
Luna.... Magical maiden of mediocrity? Gahh! Can't I get a break
from the embarrassing nicknames?'

Calming herself, Lina continued her journey south.

'It took about three years before I met Gourry. Maybe, I can
heal by that time. No Joyrcok. I decapitated him with the Blast
Blade. No statue of me and Rowdy either, but that is a small price to
pay for some peace of mind.'

Lina pulled the Blast Blade out its sheath and held it in front
of her. She gave a low whistle as she turned it to catch the light.

'If it wasn't for this sword, I would have been dead a long time

ago,' she thought, as she resheathed the sword and looked down at the
sheath. 'It looks like I need to reinforce the dulling spell again.'

Lina laughed, as she started running. 'Watch out bandits, Lina
Inverse the Bandit Slayer is back in action.'

Author's note: Yes, I know. I skipped over what happened between 5 and
6. You'll find out eventually the full details of what Lina did.
