Using MS WORD is the _worst_ thing a writer can do. Just
about anything else is better.

I have written every single one of my fanfics in Word.  Every one.  As long 
as you do some very basic things - like, say, tell it not to use "smart 
quotes" - you'll be able to get along just fine.

There are so many bad things a writer can do; the tools that are used to 
actually write with are far down the list of "The Worst Things a Writer Can 
Do".  Indeed, with its auto-spellchecking and underlining questionable 
grammar, Word can actually help writers avoid some of the things on the list 
of "The Worst Things a Writer Can Do".

Just my two cents.
