[FFML] Question about how to keep the text as is after submitted

Just to add a couple of things:
We on this list have some requirements that other email communities
might not share. Specifically, we need to be able to make line-by-line
comments on each other's stories.
If a story is line-wrapped, it's easy to quote a specific part of it
just by prefacing each line by a ">" marker. With this, it should be
obvious to everybody what is quoted from the original story and what
is added commentary. Without line-wrapping, all you'd get is one
single ">" at the start of the paragraph, easy to miss, and if I snip
out the beginning of the paragraph you don't even get that.
It's common nowadays when replying to an email to quote the entire
message and insert your reply above it. Having people do this on a
fanfiction list where chapters can be 100kb or larger would not only
be a gross waste of everybody's disk space and bandwidth, especially
bad for people in digest mode or reading the archives who might see a
whole slew of copies of the same original message, but the reader has
to figure out which specific line in the fic the commenter is
referring to.
With regard to Unicode, nobody says that you aren't allowed to post in
it, only that the list and/or some of the email clients out there
might end up garbling it -- that's how this whole thread began. If it
didn't cause problems for a significant portion of readers, it
wouldn't be an issue and we wouldn't be having this discussion.
