Probably from me. Let's put it like this: in the
Haruhi fandom, there are three basic competing
theories:
1. GODDESS: Yes, Haruhi is a god. Hanging in there
but most fans hold it disproven because several times
Haruhi has been frustrated and wanting change that
hasn't happened.
2: LOCK AND KEY: Haruhi is a god, but she can only
access her powers when Kyon unlocks them for her.
Supported by the fact that every time she *has* used
her powers, it has been in Kyon's presence and with
his tacit consent. (Yes, even the initial emergence
when she was thirteen. Asahina is a *time traveller*
and does have the ability to transport passengers.
Let's just say that when Haruhi asked Kyon if they'd
met before on the first day of high school, the answer
should have been 'Not yet'.)
3: MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN: *Kyon* is the god and
Haruhi is his avatar/channel. Proponents of this
theory have not yet come up with a consensus on why he
would do this but the widest held view was that it
seemed like a good idea and he was bored at the time.
Supported by the fact that Kyon is present and
involved in all of Haruhi's exploits and many of
Kyon's more cryptic comments.
Keep in mind that they are only theories. DB Sommer
is clearly a supporter of the Goddess theory. I
myself am a strong supporter of MBtC, consider Goddess
all but disproved by canon and will happily accept
L&K. But until the author tells us which is right,
we're all just speculating.
It does keep me from offering C&C on this fic, though.
As I said, in canon Goddess is almost completely
disproven, so a Haruhi with powers WITHOUT Kyon is, to
me, heading far into AU territory.
